SHILLONG: While the wives of late NCP candidate Jonathone Sangma (Williamnagar) and late Clement Marak (Selsella) could not win the bypoll as sympathy did not work, the sons of two political leaders, Purno Sangma and Donkupar Roy won the bypolls with a record margin as there was sympathy wave.
After the death of Purno, Conrad won the bypoll to Tura Lok Sabha seat in 2016 with a record margin of 1,92,212 votes.
The victory margin of Shella candidate Balajiedkupar Synrem, the son of Roy, is 6221, another record of sorts.
