Declamation contest in Jowai
JOWAI: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Jowai organised a declamation contest on ‘Patriotism and Nation building’ at the Sookpoh Community hall, Chillianraid Jowai on Sunday, in the presence of D. Rapsang, Youth Coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra. The contest was organised as part of the Republic Day Celebration 2018-19. Altogether, 15 contestants representing five development blocks in East and West Jaintia Hills participated. Youths from Saipung, Khliehriat, Laskein, Thadlaskein and Amlarem represented their respective blocks. The winner of the declamation contest for both the East and West Jaintia Hills districts was Ripos Lyngdoh from Rngad village representing Khliehriat block, who won Rs 5000. Sonovershine Nyalang of Mawlong village from Amlarem block received Rs 2000 as second prize and Balam Pakma of Laskein block from Mynso village won the third prize and Rs 1000. Ripos will represent East and West Jaintia Hills in the state-level declamation contest which will be held later this year.

Inauguration of workers’ society
JOWAI: The All Jaintia Muster Roll Workers & Labour Union, Jaintia Hills District will inaugurate the Muster Roll Workers & Labour Consumer & Thrift Cooperative Society Ltd Jowai, in a function at Passah market Complex, Jowai on Monday. The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills will be the chief guest. The president-cum-chairman of the organisation has requested all members to be present on the occasion.
