SHILLONG: Cardinal Charles Bo, the first Cardinal from Myanmar visited Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC) and the Don Bosco Museum, Mawlai, on Monday.
Bo was impressed by the Salesians in the North East who worked for the growth of the church and the society at large.
He also praised the Salesians for keeping and preserving the cultures and traditions of the different tribes in the North East through the museum.
Bo said the museum is a sign that the missionaries appreciate and love the cultures and traditions of the people. The church encouraged the people to preserve and protect their good cultures and traditions and in this way, the work of evangelisation means recognising and accepting the good customs and traditions of the people of God.
For this reason, the church accepts ‘inculturation’ in its liturgical animation that fits for the particular type of people.
“Priesthood is not a profession or a job but a call for fidelity and dynamic in faith,” said the Cardinal during the homily.
“Since I am visiting the beautiful North East India for the first time, I can see the whole Northeastern cultures and traditions preserved in the museum,” said the Cardinal, who praised the faith of the Khasi people whom he witnessed during the Eucharistic procession, “as in spite of the bad weather, their faith has not failed in attending the annual spiritual event.”
He attributed all these to the missionaries who sowed the seeds of Catholic faith in this region of Khasi Hills.
