KHADC prohibits any form of protest inside premises

SHILLONG: The executive committee of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has prohibited any kind of unauthorised entry and public assembly or gathering with the intention to hold any protests, shouting slogans, display of placards besides others in any form of protest within the premises of the council.
A notification dated November 14, 2019 stated that the Council has viewed with great concern on the illegal entry and unauthorized assembly of some unknown people on the premises of the Council by holding protests, shouting of slogans and other form of protests without the knowledge or permission from the authority of the council.
It also stated that such instances have affected the normal functioning of the office and created a fear psychosis in the minds of the office staff as well as the general public who visit the office for official purposes.
It may be mentioned that the KHADC has time and again faced the problem of security breach even though security guards are stationed at the gate. Groups of people would gather and impose one or the other demands, hold placards in front of the Council, with the recent one being vendors and hawkers and on Thursday, it was the people from Sohiong who held protests in front of the Council.
