SHILLONG: The ex-CEM of KHADC, HS Shylla, has stressed on the urgency to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, Shylla said that with two state district councils, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council already being covered under the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873, “the only matter left is for the governor to announce the date or dates and the area or areas to which the Inner Line Permit (ILP) will be enforced.”
Asserting that the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council is the only autonomous district council which is not covered by the regulation, he said that the Centre has to come out with a separate legislation.
He also highlighted the urgency to implement the ILP saying that “the provision in the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 has clearly stated that Meghalaya, being a state where Sixth Schedule in operational, is exempted from the provisions of CAA 2019.”
