GUWAHATI: The Assam forest department seized more than 200 immature sal wood logs from a RCC bridge construction site at Neuldoba village under Boko constituency of Kamrup district on Thursday.

Forest department sources said an early morning operation was launched on the basis of information about immature sal wood logs, worth over Rs 10 lakh, being used at the construction site.

The Singra forest range was informed accordingly to take action and the staff of the range along with teams from Bamunigaon, Kukurmara and Nagarbera ranges reached the spot and seized the logs.

An excavator was also used to load the logs on trucks and later transport the timber to the Singra range office at Boko, sources said.

The 100-metre long under-construction bridge, where the timber was seized, falls within the 10-km road from Goroimari to Neuldoba being constructed by a Guwahati-based private firm.
