This is the first week of the year and there are partiers and happenings all around last weekend and also in this weekend. Year-end means time to relax and say adieu to the year and welcome another year. From the time of Christmas to celebrating the New Year, it’s all about fun, relaxing, joy and happiness. Occasions and festivity can also be linked with career and the easy word for us in this regard is event management.
Organising events have become a common area of employability in recent years as many events and celebration takes place during the last week. Events in the last and first weeks of the year include many activities. It is the application of project management to the creation and development of large scale events such as festivals, conferences, ceremonies, formal parties, concerts, or get together.
Events management involves studying the brand, identifying the target audience, devising the event concept and coordinating the technical aspects before actually launching the event.
The process of planning and coordinating the event is usually referred to as event planning, which includes budgeting, scheduling, site selection, acquiring necessary permits, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging for speakers or entertainers, arranging decor, event security, catering, coordinating with third party vendors and emergency plans.
One does not need much formal qualification to be part of these professions. Some of the qualities which are important are good communication skills, self-confidence and must be able to manage people and also work in team, etc. Having good knowledge over language is another advantage. Students of Mass Communications or public relations can also take up this profession. This is a profession which demands high perfection, hard work and a lot of patience.
Some of the courses related to event management are Certificate Course in Event Management, Diploma in Event Management (DEM), Post Graduate Diploma in Event Management (PGEM), Post Graduate Diploma in Event Management and Public Relations, etc. There are some institutes which offer these kinds of courses.
With experience any one may earn a good amount of money through events and celebrations. As we are in 2020, a year with lots of opportunities, I wish all our readers a great year ahead. When you read this then next time you may think of organizing some events or guide others to do that so that the career option of event management gets popularity in our region. Let the coming year be another happening year and year with good cheer for all of us.
