SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF), an ally in the coalition of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), warned that there should be no compromise with the Centre on the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP).
President of PDF, Banteidor Lyngdoh said that the Sixth Schedule should remain as it is and should not be abolished but ILP should also be implemented. He said that ILP system and the Sixth Schedule can exist side by side.
“We have said that we oppose Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), and hence we need the ILP besides the Sixth Schedule”, he said.
He reacted to statements that the Sixth Schedule will likely be abolished if ILP is implemented.
According to Lyngdoh, ILP is a weapon that will protect the state and the indigenous community from illegal immigrants.
