Tura poet conferred International Friendship Award

TURA: Renowned Bengali poet from Tura Town, Biswajit Nandi has once again done the region proud by receiving the prestigious Indo-Dubai Friendship International Award, 2019 recently.
Nandi received the award in a function held at the Al Koohory Banquet Hotel in Dubai under the aegis of the Samata Sahitya Sabha. He was awarded in recognition for his work on the fields of poetry and social activities.
It may be mentioned that Nandi is a noted Bengali writer who has written 6 books on many noted personalities of the country and abroad and has been a part of many literary circles of the country. He has also written scores of poems on various subjects.
He received the award in the presence of many dignitaries representing different countries in which co-coordinator of DK International Research Foundation from Sri Lanka, Dr Ranjan Piyasiri Dantanarayana was the Chief Guest.
The function was also attended by Laxmikant Khabiya, chief advisor, SSA Dubai, Hazah Mariah Haji Metussin, duty officer, prime minister office, Brunei, Wong Mun Kong, president of Singapore Masters Track & field.
Nandi has written poetry on the lives of many famous personalities including former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, former speaker of Lok Sabha, PA Sangma, the first Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Capt WA Sangma, Governor of West Bengal, Keshrinath Tripathi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
For his contribution to Bengali literature, Nandi had earlier been given the lifetime achievement award by the West Garo Hills district administration on the 45th Meghalaya Day in 2017.
A poet of international repute, Nandi has bagged numerous national and international awards. His works have so far been translated into many languages including Garo, Assamese, Hindi, English and Nepali.
