Shillong: A sensational performance by Dipu Sangma saw the batsman hit his maiden first-class century in Meghalaya’s Ranji Trophy match against Mizoram in Kolkata on Sunday.
Dipu Sangma, whose previous highest Ranji score was 36, struck 114, which was one of three centuries for Meghalaya on the opening day where they posted 414/4 at stumps. Guest-professionals Ravi Teja (119) and Sanjay Yadav (107) are currently not out.
As the number three batsman Dipu Sangma had to come in early after the loss of opener Wanlambok Nongkhlaw (3) in the third over and he put on a 100-run partnership for the second wicket with Tengchan Sangma (38). When finally dismissed Dipu Sangma had struck 16 fours and two sixes. His is the highest score and first century by a Meghalaya domicile in this season’s Ranji Trophy.
Following his dismissal Teja and Yadav added another 192 runs before stumps to put Meghalaya into a very strong position going into the second day.
On the other hand, Meghalaya defeated Nagaland by nine wickets on the second day of their U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match in Tezpur on Sunday.  Resuming on 96/3 in response to Nagaland’s first innings score of 171, Meghalaya were bowled out for 198, giving them a lead of 27 runs.  Nagaland started the day well by dismissing Meghalaya’s top scorer Divyansh Rajput (47) early, after he added only four runs to his overnight score. A handy 33 not out by Aryan Borah towards the end of the innings ensure Meghalaya a small lead. Aaron Nongrum then ripped through the Nagaland lineup, taking 6/24, while Borah scalped 4/8 (match figures of 8/79) as Nagaland were skittled for 48.
