SHILLONG: The upcoming Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) project coming up at Mawiong is set to be delayed further as the land for the project at the approach road is not yet available.
The project was scheduled to be completed in December last year after years of delay. Now, the project will be completed only in March.
The ISBT is a project of the NEC and the Transport department and it is being implemented by the State PWD.
An official said that the land at the approach road is yet to be acquired by the Transport department and once the land is made available, the project will be completed.
As of now, a single road is available but it would be difficult for vehicles to ply once the ISBT becomes functional.
Officials have informing that some minor works are yet to be completed.
The project, which is under the Transport Department, is being executed by the PWD at an estimated cost of Rs 48 crore.
The ISBT project has been delayed for years and multiple deadlines have been missed since it was sanctioned in 2013.
The project is aimed at decongesting the overcrowded parking lots in Shillong. The new terminus will accommodate 150-200 buses. Once completed, it will be the second ISBT in Meghalaya apart from the one at Tura having been inaugurated recently.
