TURA: The A’chik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) will organise a cultural protest – ‘No CAA, Yes ILP’ – on January 21 to show its opposition to the Citizenship (Amenmednt) Act and to demand implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
The protest coincides with the observance of Meghalaya Day.
It will kick off with an awareness campaign on the ill effects of CAA at Tura Bazar followed by ‘torch march’ to William Point, Hawakhana where the cultural protest will take place. It will witness performances by different artiste from Garo.
Various organisations from Garo Hills, including NESO, GSU, ADE and FKJGP, will join the protest where its leaders will address the gathering.
Meanwhile, the AYWO has urged all households from all corners of Garo Hills to show their protest against the CAA by lighting ‘Bilcham’ (torch) or candle in front of their houses from 6 pm onwards.
”This is the fight for our identity and the need of the hour is unity. We request the general public, all local bodies, MLAs and MDCs to be a part of the gathering and collectively demand for ILP,” AYWO general secretary, Lyiend Roshan Marak said.
The protest at Tura Bazar and William Point will begin at 2 pm and 5 pm respectively.
