SHILLONG: The job card holders and members of the Village Employment Council (VEC) from Kyndong Wahlong (Sohiong) alleged that a number of works are lying pending owing to the delay tactics of the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Sohiong.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, secretary of the VEC, Ovarwell Lyngdoh, said that the job card holders have started some of the works but it was the headman, Shngainsing Nongbri, who wrote to the BDO to stop the works under the MGNREGS.
“The BDO would dilly-dally. He would tell us to resume, and later, direct us to stop and so on so forth. It is like he is folding clothes and unfolding them again,” Lyngdoh said.
He informed that the MGNREGS works amounted to Rs 13 lakh. He further alleged that new job card holders were enrolled without the knowledge of the VEC.
Lyngdoh said that Nongbri wanted to be in the VEC and hence, petitioned the BDO to stop the MGNREGS works.
