SHILLONG: Punjab and Jharkhand won their respective matches on the second day of the Hero Junior National Football Championship for the Dr BC Roy Trophy here on Wednesday.
In Group B, the morning game saw Punjab record a 3-0 win over Kerala. Seilenthang Lotjem picked up a brace of goals (34′, 81′), while Rohit scored in the 80th minute at JN Stadium. Later Jharkhand defeated Manipur 1-0 thanks to a penalty conversion by Thiyam Amujao Meitei (66′).
In Group D at Third Ground, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir split points after a goalless draw in the morning, while Karnataka recovered from going two goals down in under an hour to draw 2-2. Chhattisgarh scored through Amit Nag (39′) and Pritam Limbu (53′ penalty), while Karnataka clawed their way back thanks to goals from Elangbam Tondon Meitei (72′) and Shreyas Ketkar (75′ penalty).
On Thursday, the hosts, Meghalaya will be back in action at Third Ground against opponents Odisha at 2 pm.
