KSU wants preference to locals in border haat trade

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union, South Khasi Hills unit, Sohra said that the indigenous community should be given preference to trade at the border haat in Shella Bholaganj given the presence of a large number of non-indigenous people.
In a statement issued here, KSU South Khasi Hills unit general secretary, Edmund Khongsya threatened to stop the opening of haat if the indigenous people are not given preference and has requested the Khasi community to register their names for the purpose.
The union has warned the Syiem of Hima Sohra, Sordar of Border areas to not issue NOC to any non-indigenous persons.
