Ex-MDC Shylla for monitoring entry of people in state
SHILLONG: MLA and former MDC HS Shylla said the entry of people from outside the state should be monitored, especially patients in NEIGRIHMS. In a statement issued here, he said that the state government should prepare preventive measures and mobilise trained medical experts to deal with diseases the patients suffer from. While asserting that patients would arrive at NEIGRIHMS every morning at 5 am, he pointed out that the patients should be checked and be transported in ambulances. He said that the state government should take up measures to keep the localities and markets clean.

Event to sensitise on coal mining
TURA: In order to facilitate systematic, safe, scientific and planned utilisation of mineral resources in South Garo Hills, the office of the Directorate of Mineral Resources, Government of Meghalaya, conducted a one-day orientation and sensitisation programme which was attended by the mine owners from far-flung areas of the district. During the programme, the resource person, in his PowerPoint presentation, highlighted the preparation of geological reports and feasibility study, granting of mining lease under scientific coal mining plan as per the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation Act 1957 and the Mineral Concessions Rules 1960).

National Science Day at NIT
SHILLONG: The State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya, in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Meghalaya, will organise the celebration of National Science Day-cum-HACKATHON 2020 at state NIT premises, Laitumkhrah, on Thursday and Friday. On the first day, student innovators from across the country will showcase models, which will address the issues regarding the needs of the state in different sectors, viz. soil and water conservation, water supply and sanitation and farming. There will also be an exhibition of models by students and master trainers on both days by 13 schools of Ri Bhoi (Aspirational District) on AI and robotics along with display of models/poster by students and faculty of NIT, Meghalaya for projects funded by SCSTE. Visit of students from the city schools to the exhibition and NIT laboratories will also be arranged on both the days.

Court convicts rape-accused
SHILLONG: Additional Session Judge, Shillong, M Skhemlon, on Tuesday awarded seven-year imprisonment to Pynkhrawborlang Lyngkhoi under 376(1) IPC (rape), one-year imprisonment under 506 IPC (criminal intimidation), two-month imprisonment under 447 IPC (criminal trespass). The case was registered in Laban Police Station.
