4 more deaths recorded, Delhi violence toll 42

New Delhi: The death toll in Delhi’s communal violence has gone up to 42 now with four more fatalities being recorded at the city’s GTB Hospital on Friday, officials said.
The number stood at 38 till Thursday. The Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital has recorded 38 deaths, the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital three, and the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital has reported one.
Nearly 7,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the affected areas of the northeast district since Monday to assist hundreds of Delhi police men and women to maintain peace. More than 250 people have been injured in the communal clashes. The areas mainly affected include Jafrabad, Maujpur, Chand Bagh, Khureji Khas and Bhajanpura.
123 FIRs registered, 630 arrested, detained
Meanwhile, A total of 123 FIRs were registered and 630 people were either arrested or detained so far in connection with the northeast Delhi communal violence, the Delhi Police spokesperson said on Friday.
Delhi Police spokesperson Mandeep Singh Randhawa said forensic science laboratory teams have been called in and the crime scenes are being revisited.
79 houses damaged
The three-day violence resulted in burning down of at least 500 vehicles, 79 houses besides other places, official data revealed on Friday. According to the official data of the fire department, at least 79 houses, 52 shops, 3 factories and 2 schools besides places of worship were burned down during the clashes.
A senior fire official said at least 218 calls were received of which 25 involved burning down of vehicles. When the fire department responded, it found at least 500 burnt vehicles, the official added.
The official also stated that at least 1,000 trips were undertaken by the fire fighting vehicles in the affected areas. From the total calls received, 28 were malicious while 15 calls were done with good intention. (PTI)
