SHILLONG: In an effort to contain the spread of novel Corona virus in the state of Meghalaya, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has offered to render their service to the state Health Department as volunteers.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, office secretary of the HNYF, Donbok Dkhar said, “We are appealing to Health Department to avail our services to combat the spread of the virus”.

He added that following government advisories at this time was a must for the public and appealed to private sector establishments to follow the same.

In the memorandum to the Director Health Services (MI), Aman War, the HNYF stated that they were willing to assist the Health Department as volunteers to help disinfect other parts of the city especially those areas where there is an omnipresent floating population as of the effort of the government to contain the possible spread of the disease to the state.

The HNYF came up with this notion after observing that the government might face shortage of manpower in the days to come at a time when the state was aggressively working against the effects of the virus.

Meanwhile, War has expressed gratitude to the HNYF for their readiness to collaborate with the Health Department to contain the spread of the virus.

“The organisation has said there are many units in the Khasi, Jaintia and some parts in Garo Hills and they are coming forward to be trained as medical volunteers to assist the Health Department. They have offered their assistance if the health department is in need”, he said.

War said that given the need, the HNYF units would be given training and the units would then train other members of the organization.

“Will take their names and inform the DM & HO, civil surgeon and district surveillance unit. Those who have been trained will be requested to assist the medical team to contain the spread of the virus so that we can protect the people of the state”, he said.
