Mock exercise at Williamnagar
WILLIAMNAGAR: The East Garo Hills (EGH) District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), under the supervision of its chairman and the deputy commissioner Swapnil Tembe, on Wednesday conducted the mega mock exercise on COVID-19 at Williamnagar.
The exercise, which commenced from the staging area at DC’s office, concluded with the admission of COVID-19 suspects to the isolation centre at Denggagre village.
Tembe, while debriefing, lauded the members of IRT and the officers and staff of line departments for their support and cooperation for the successful conduct.
Others who shared their observations included Superintendent of Police, RTG Momin; ADC, Aloysius Ch Marak and the District Surveillance Officer.
Ambulances allotted in EJH
Khliehriat: East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner has directed ambulances in the district to adhere to the Ambulance Transfer Protocols as provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The DC has also informed that necessary training, identification of staffs, assigning of cases, etc., may be done in collaboration with GVK EMRI accordingly.
According to a statement, ambulances at Rymbai PHC can be contacted at 7005792457, 9612059285 and 6909759043, the ones at Saipung PHC can be contacted at 9774365369 and 9774433276, and the same at Umkaing PHC can be contacted at 9101655266 and 7005695935.
“Whereas, for Khliehriat and Laskien, health facility will be covered by the GVK 108 for any health-related emergencies,” the statement said.
Ranikor MLA holds meeting
Mawkyrwat: Ranikor MLA and Langrin MDC, Pius Marwein, on Wednesday held a meeting with the village headmen of 15 villages from Mawpyllun area at Mawpyllun village, Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills District, where he also distributed rice to the villages.
With the Ranikor Constituency being one of the biggest constituencies in the state, Marwein said that the MLA and MDC schemes were not enough to help the poor people of the constituency, adding that he will have to also donate from his own pocket.
Speaking to the media persons, Marwein also requested the headmen not to play politics during this time of crisis, instructing them to distribute the rice to the poor families. “I hope that the headmen choose the right people,” Marwein said.

Three EJH villages sanitised
JOWAI: The Meghalaya Cement Limited (MCL), popularly known as TopCem Cement, on Wednesday sanitised three village in East Jaintia Hills district.
The sanitisation work — which was conducted at Thangskai, Wahiajer and Chiehruphi — was conducted as per the advices of the MCL President, RK Pareek, and the village headmen.
The locals were also advised to strictly adhere to the health advisory laid down by the government.
