SHILLONG: Kalakairaly, a socio-cultural organisation, and Orchid City Rotary Club have distributed groceries to 185 needy families reaching about 800 people residing in Malki.
The supplies in the form of food kits for each family consisted of 5 kg rice, 2 kg pulses, 2 kg sugar, 1 litre cooking oil, 1 kg salt, 250 gms tea powder, 3 kg of vegetables, 2 pieces of soap and 5 masks.
A total of 185 such packages, for an equal number of families, were handed over to the Malki Durbar Shnong members, who had identified the intended beneficiaries.
The initiative by Kalakairaly and Orchid City Rotary Club is a part of the ongoing independent drives, being undertaken in various parts of the state by NGOs, individuals, welfare organisations and others to help in providing essential supplies to the poor and marginalised people who have been the most affected by the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Orchid City Rotary Club has also been contributing to the food distribution through the Gurudwara. In addition, they have donated for doctors’ personal protective gears in Civil Hospital through Dr Judita Syiemllieh.
