Assam reports no new COVID-19 case in 7 consecutive days

GUWAHATI: Assam Health Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there was no report on any new COVID-19 positive case in the state for the seven consecutive days till Wednesday. He claimed that the situation in the state was much better compared to many other states in the country as on date.

The minister informed that so far 34 COVID-19 positive cases had been detected in the state  and out of those one patient died in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Nineteen patients have already been released from the hospital after they were confirmed to have cured by the doctor as per ICMR guidelines. Now, 14 patients from the state are undergoing treatment in various COVID hospitals in the state.  The figures exclude one patient from Nagaland who is also undergoing treatment in Assam.

“Assam has registered a death rate of 2.94% because of one COVID-19 death compared to all India average of 3.2 % and global average of 7 % deaths,” the minister said.

“A total of 5,789 people have been tested in Assam so far. Thirty-four have tested positive while results of tests on 214 sample are being awaited. These tests include samples sent from neighbouring states of   Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland,” he informed.

Meanwhile, on request from journalists based in the state, Assam health department has decided to conduct free COVID-19 tests for news reporters at Guwahati Medical College from 9 AM on April 25.
