SHILLONG: Sohra MLA, Gavin Mylliem has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma suggesting him to set up a corona care centre at Sohra as well as in other Civil Sub Divisions, depending on the situation in view of East Khasi Hills being tagged as a “Red Zone”.
In the letter to the CM, he mentioned that Sohra Civil Sub-Division has one Community Health Centre catering to the need of the people from near and far flung areas of both Sohra and Shella Assembly Constituencies.
He also said that the frontline workers of Sohra CHC are to be provided with PPEs and N95 masks to ensure safety, and considerably minimize risks while performing their duties.
Mylliem also suggested turning home stays at Sohra into Quarantine Centres for those who cannot afford to adhere to laid down protocols /guidelines of the health department at home.
It may be mentioned that home stays and guest houses in Sohra which is a major tourist attraction have closed down even before the lockdown was declared.
Again, Mylliem said that additional ambulances is needed in Sohra as it is difficult for Sohra Community Health Centre to cater to medical emergencies with just one ambulance.
