Mawkyrwat: The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills district along with the units at the village level donated rice to 112 poor families across the district who are facing difficulties amid the lockdown.
The KSU Warsan Lyngdoh circle along with KSU Nongummer unit donated rice to 38 households of Nongummer village, while the KSU Umdohlun circle along with KSU Photumiap area unit rice to 25 families of Photumiap, Langpa and New Phanwer village.
Besides, the KSU South West Khasi Hills district were able to help a family at Umdohlun who lost their house due to a fire recently.
The team was led by Aiciless Lyngdoh, executive member of KSU South West Khasi Hills district and Daman Syrman, organising secretary of KSU Umdohlun Circle.
President of KSU South West Khasi Hills district, Forwardman Nongrem said that the union along with its units were able to help 112 poor families in the district.
Nongrem also requested the people of the district to help each other during this time of crisis where many are losing their jobs especially daily wage earners.
The president also requested the government to speed up the financial assistance to poor people as promised.
The KSU also requested wholesalers who deliver rice to the dealers at the villages not to deduct the rice as it will affect the beneficiaries especially during this ongoing pandemic.
