MAWKYRWAT/NONGSTOIN: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills districts have announced provision of legal assistance to the people affected due to the crisis arising out of COVID-19.
The possibility of cases of domestic violence, eviction of tenants for non-payment of rent, non-payment of wages by employers and other legal matters cannot be ruled out during the lockdown period, they said.
The District & Session Court offices in both the districts have set up a help desk in front of the court for providing legal advice or assistance. Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) at the help desk will provide legal advice or assistance and facilitate the process for those in need and seeking for relief. People requiring legal assistance may call or WhatsApp the helpline number — 9954659516.
However, the affected person should provide the minimum details whenever they contact the helpline. Further, MK Lyngdoh, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, South West Khasi Hills, informed that the PLVs will help in getting car pass for emergency and medical purposes for inter-state and inter-district movement by collaborating with the district administration.
Lyngdoh also expressed gratitude to several departments of the district for their constant and tireless support, cooperation and coordination in all aspects to provide succour to the people in need of help and in assisting farmers, daily wage labourers and the marginalised who are affected during the lockdown.
