SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Commercial Vehicle Owners & Drivers’ Union has urged the state government to exempt the taxes levied on the commercial vehicles for the period starting March till the lockdown period is over.
The president of the union, Egenstar Kurkalang, in a letter to the Transport Minister, Sngiewbhalang Dhar, informed that the owners and drivers of commercial vehicles have been struggling to eke out a living due to the lockdown, more specifically the curfew, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kurkalang said that they are not in a position to pay the taxes as their work has been stalled as a result of the lockdown.
