SHILLONG: The state Cabinet has approved amendment to the Agricultural Marketing Act and the proposal by the Labour department to bring few changes in the Labour Act.
Informing this, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the Centre had requested all the respective state governments to revisit the present form of the Agricultural Marketing Act and improve it for the benefits of the farmers.
Stating that the intention of the government is to have more regulated markets as the state has only two — one in Mawiong and the other in Garo bada — Tynsong said that by amending the law, they will be able to set up more regulated markets as per necessity.
He added that the state government will sit down again for some fine tuning.
Talking about the Labour Act, Tynsong said the Cabinet has approved the proposal from Labour department about few changes in the Act, which will be introduced in the Assembly on May 20.
Pointing out that albeit Labour Act relates to central Act, since it is in the concurrent list, the state government has some say.
Giving a gist of the amendments, he said the changes have been made to three legislations such as Industrial Dispute Act, Labour Contract Act.
