226 returnees tested negative: Ri Bhoi DC

Nongpoh: The Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, Rosetta Mary Kurbah said the screening results of 266 people who have returned to the district are negative.
Speaking during the meeting of Citizen Support Committee on Saturday which was held at the District Library Hall, the deputy commissioner said the returnees went through screening and rapid tests while entering the state. Some of them were sent for home quarantine while others were kept in isolation centres at CTI Byrnihat and SIRD Umiam.
The office of the Deputy Commissioner & Chairperson (DDMA), Ri Bhoi conducted a meeting in the presence of DP Kharsati, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi.
Kurbah said that the committee aims to sensitise people about COVID-19 and its preventive measures to enable the people to fight against the virus.
The deputy commissioner also informed that the district administration needs more Isolation centres for quarantine and asked the cooperation of the village committees to identify buildings to be used as quarantine centres.
She also suggested that the centres should be close to health centres such as CHCs and PHCs to ease commuting for doctors and health workers.
The deputy commissioner also requested those asked to home quarantine to stay at home and isolate themselves and to complete the 28 days as a precautionary measure.
She also asked the village and the church to work as a team in supporting those families during their quarantine period.
The deputy commissioner in the meeting also invited church leaders to counsel those staying at various quarantine centres and isolation centres in the district.
She also advised church representatives to submit the names of their representatives to the office of the deputy commissioner for issuing ID cards for entering quarantine centres.
Furthermore, the deputy commissioner informed the gathering that for the burial of a COVID-19 victim, only trained government officials can handle the body.
The families and relatives are barred from touching the body or coffin.
She also asked the village committee, churches, organisations to work together with the government to fight against COVID-19.
Nongpoh district officials, BDOs from different C&RD Blocks, principals of different schools and colleges, church leaders from different religious organisations and representatives of Nongpoh Town Dorbar attended the meeting among others.
