Amaravati:  The Koyambedu connection is turning out to be a major factor in the number of Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh. On Monday too, 19 of the 52 reported cases had a travel history to the market in Tamil Nadu.
The market in Chennai has been identified as the single largest factor in the spread of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, where the tally has crossed the 10,000-mark.
In Andhra Pradesh, however, the Covid-19 tally stood at 2,282 on Monday morning. The state nodal officer said 9,173 samples were tested in the 24 hours ending 10 a.m.
Of the new cases, Chittoor and Krishna districts reported 15 cases each. While Nellore and East Godavari districts reported 5 and 4 cases, Kadapa, and West Godavari registered 2 cases each. Similarly, one case each was detected in Visakhapatnam and West Godavari district.
But 12 of the 15 cases unearthed in Chittoor district over the past 24 hours had travel history to the Koyambedu market. Similarly, all 7 Covid-19 positive people in Nellore district had recently visited that market. The market has since been shut.
During the past 24 hours, 94 people were discharged from hospitals taking the number of cured cases in the state to 1,527. With this, the number of active cases has declined to 705.
Of the 13 Andhra districts, 4 didn’t report a single case on Monday. With no death in the past 24 hours, the toll remained at 50.
Kurnool district’s tally touched 615, even as the active cases dipped to 163 from Sunday’s 187. With no new cases, Guntur’s tally remains at 417, while Krishna district’s cumulative tally jumped by 15 to 382 cases.
