SHILLONG: A Meghalaya police constable attached with the Bhutan Embassy in New Delhi committed suicide on Monday night.
Confirming this on Tuesday, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the constable Panat Sangma allegedly hanged himself.
“Investigation is on and the family members have been informed of the incident,” Rymbui said.
Reacting to a query about growing cases of suicide among police personnel deployed in other states, Rymbui said it is the duty of the state and the department to take care of all its personnel. “We provide counseling from time to time but we cannot rule out the fact that the constable killed himself over issues not related to work,” he said.
He also suggested that any police personnel with grievances must address their concerns with the higher authorities.
