GUWAHATI: As safer and hygienic travel options become a pre-requisite for commuters in the midst of a pandemic, a Gurugram-based inter-city transportation provider has decided to roll out a fleet of completely sanitised buses with extensive precautionary measures in the Northeast.

Yolo Bus, which claims to have a stronghold in northern and southern parts of India, will launch its services in Assam on May 25 and thereafter to other cities of the region, a statement issued here said on Saturday.

The mobility provider plans to expand its services across Guwahati, Tinsukia, Silchar, North Lakhimpur and Duliajan to start with. The buses will subsequently ply from Guwahati to Imphal via Dimapur and Kohima, Guwahati to Aizwal and Guwahati to Itanagar.

“Every passenger will be checked with infra-red temperature measuring guns before boarding. Customers will be able to book their essential PPE kits and know the temperature of the bus crew members before booking the bus. A sanitisation tunnel will be installed for passengers before boarding. The captain, along with the bus driver and staff will wear essential PPE to do away with the risk of contamination, ensuring a safe journey for the passengers,” the statement added.

Speaking about the expansion, Shailesh Gupta, chief executive officer and co-founder, Yolo Bus, said, “We will strive to provide travellers the safest travel options amid the COVID-19 pandemic through smart network planning and dynamic price management.”

The company offers full-stack services including washrooms, food and beverages, high-speed Wi-Fi, device charging points, etc

“We have started hiring youths in Assam and are investing in their training and development. We believe this will contribute to skill development in the region and accelerate its economic growth,” Mukul Shah, chief operating officer and co-founder, Yolo Bus said.
