SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Sunday visited Tikrikilla to review the damages caused by the flash flood last week, particularly to the AMPT road, which is the lifeline for the people of plains in West Garo Hills.
He held a meeting with the officials of administration, PWD and line departments and inspected the damage portion of the road at Bondumali in Tikrikilla, Phulbari and Selsella.
He interacted with people of different villages of Raksamgre and Tikrikilla.
The chief minister informed that an alternative route should be created immediately for the people of the area, while the damaged portion at Bondumali is being repaired and restored at the earliest.
Additional Chief Engineer PWD (roads) Gromyko Marak informed that alternative route to connect Tikrikilla with neighbouring Agia of Goalpara district in Assam is being made functional to enable the movement of people in the region.
The damaged road at Bondumali has disconnected plains of West Garo Hills, South Salmara – Mankachar district of Assam with rest of the region via lower Assam’s Goalpara district.
”The entire administration is working on a war footing to ensure that the restoration work is completed at the earliest. In the next two weeks, the road will be restored and vehicles should be able to ply,” the chief minister said.
He directed the administration and the PWD (roads) to ensure that repair and restoration works in AMPT road are expedited.
