Sonowal expresses grief at loss of 20 lives in Barak Valley landslides

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of  20 lives in Barak Valley landslide tragedy.

Sonowal directed  district administrations of Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj  and also State Disaster Response Fund team to step up rescue and relief operations. He further asked the team to facilitate all possible help needed to those affected.

‘Deeply anguished at the loss of lives due to landslides triggered by incessant rain in Barak valley. I have directed Cachar, Hailakandi & Karimganj district administrations and SDRF to step up rescue, relief operations and facilitate all possible help needed to those affected.’ Sonowal tweeted.

Sonowal conveyed his deepest condolences and extended solidarity with the family members of the deceased.

At least 20 people died while 19 others were injured in landslides in three districts of the state- Hailakandi, Cachar and Karimganj.
