SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed Orchid Log House and Canopy Walk at Mawkasiang, near Mawdiangdiang.
The tourism infrastructure project funded by Swadesh Darshan from the Ministry of Tourism will enable the state to attract tourists keen to explore nature. The facility with 20 log houses, is around 20 km from the city and is located amidst the scenic hills of Mawdiangdiang.
Inaugurating the facility, the chief minister informed that manpower training for the hospitality sector is currently underway in the premises, which will be open for tourists once the pandemic is over.
“The idea is to work towards the future on how we will adapt to tourism as we deal with COVID situation. We need to plan, we need a new model for promoting tourism in the state and the entire experience for the tourists,” said the chief minister.
