GUWAHATI:  Three MLAs  – S Subhashchandra Singh, TT Haokip and Samuel Jendai – in Manipur have resigned as BJP MLAs and joined the opposition Congress in Imphal on Wednesday pushing the N Biren Singh-headed BJP-led coalition government into a deep trouble.

Four MLAs of the NPP which is an ally of the BJP,  including a minister, an independent MLA and a TMC MLA also withdrew support to the BJP-led government and extended support to the Congress.

The BJP government in the state now has the support of only 18 MLAs in the assembly of 60.

Post 2017 Assembly election the BJP had  21 MLAs while the  Congress had 28. However, the Governor Najma Heptullah had invited the BJP to a floor test to prove its majority, which the BJP did.
