City PF office releases Rs 3.81 cr
SHILLONG: The Provident Fund Office, Shillong, which caters to the beneficiaries of Meghalaya and Mizoram, has released Rs 3.81 crore for the 1,040 claims during the current COVID-19 crisis. The Regional PF Commissioner KK Srivastava said on Tuesday that besides the claims during coronavirus, till date Rs 10.76 crore has been released for a total of 2,023 claims. The official said the employees can also avail the scheme under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY). The scheme will be an upfront benefit to the employers having employment up to 100 and whose 90 per cent of the employees are getting wages less than Rs 15,000. Rs 82.29 lakh has been released by the Provident Fund Office, Shillong, till date under the scheme for over 10,000 eligible beneficiaries.

Applications open for entrepreneurs
SHILLONG: Dhriiti — The Courage Withinin partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH — has invited applications for the 2nd cohort of Her&Now for North East, a project that promotes women entrepreneurs with incubation and acceleration programme. “Designed as a seven-month full-funded programme, the selected women entrepreneurs are supported to equip themselves to build on their business ideas, grow and scale their ventures,” a statement on Tuesday said. The last date for submission of application is July 5.
City woman missing
SHILLONG: One Marculish G Momin (40), sister of Bernalis G Momin, of Last Stop, Laban, has been found missing from her residence since April 22. The person who has been missing bears a fair complexion whilst her face is oval shaped. She is 4.5 feet tall and is mentally ill. Anyone knowing her whereabouts can intimate the concerned authorities at 0364-2222214 or 0364-22233168.

SBI donates PPE
SHILLONG: The State Bank of India, administrative office, distributed 100 PPE kits to the director of NEIGRIHMS and 50 such kits to the airport director of Shillong Airport expressing its solidarity in the COVID-19 battle. The deputy general manager (B&O), SBI, Shillong Module, Subhas Das and Regional Manager, Deepak Choudhury, along with their team handed over the PPE kits to the officials, a statement issued here said.

Tourist spot to remain shut
NONGSTOIN: In a bid to avert COVID-19 spread, the Village Durbar of Mawphanlur on Tuesday said that Mawphanlur tourist spot will continue to remain shut until further orders. Headman of Mawphanlur, Nikhloson Jana, in a statement, said that the tourist spot will neither open for locals nor for tourists, adding that only recently, people from outside came to Mawphanlur for sightseeing but were stopped by the villagers. He also said that the village will allow the entry of only health workers, police and officers of district administration of West Khasi Hills for official works only. The village head also decided to temporarily close down all the fishing ponds until further orders.
