TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh on Friday directed concerned departments to identify PM-Kisan beneficiaries and to collaborate with banks and Common Service Centres to facilitate their enrolment.

The directive was given during a Review meeting with Banks and concerned line departments to assess the progress of enrolment of PM-Kisan beneficiaries in the district. It may be mentioned that a Special Drive to enrol PM-Kisan beneficiaries under Kisan Credit Card, an income support scheme initiated by the Government of India for all landholder farmer families, was launched in February this year but the enrolment could not meet the target achievement due to the nationwide lockdown for Covid-19.

With the lockdown having been partially lifted, the Deputy Commissioner gave the direction to ensure that the beneficiaries are enrolled at the earliest. However, Ram Singh stressed on the need to follow Covid-19 guidelines during the enrolment process, to avoid crowding and if possible, to relocate to bank branches or avail the service of Common Service Centres so that people can get themselves enrolled without moving out of their respective villages.

Line departments were also directed to sensitize farmers including Self Help Group Members about the benefits of availing Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and also to motivate the beneficiaries for enrolment. Ram Singh also informed that Bank Sakhis under NRLM would also be used to facilitate all PM-KISAN beneficiaries for enrolment under KCC. Bank branches were also advised to prepare a list of PM-KISAN beneficiaries who do not have KCC and share the same with line departments so that they can be approached for availing the KCC benefit.
