Police sing Imagine to spread social message

NEW DELHI: The COVID-19 pandemic has cast a spell of dark shadow over normally cheerful North East, but John Lennon’s song Imagine, sung by the Meghalaya Police has taken the internet by storm.
Aiming to discouraging people from taking drugs, the Meghalaya Police has adapted the famous song to send out a message against drug abuse, and not to mention, winning praise online. The music video, which has now gone viral on several social media platforms, was shared on the official Facebook page of the department.
The caption for the video read: “On the occasion of #World Music Day and upcoming International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and in continuation of our awareness campaign, we are launching an awareness video song by The Khaki Vibes”.
Viewed over 68,000 times, the video shows the police band twisting the lyrics of John Lennon’s song to speak on addiction and how people have a happy life if they let go of drug abuse.
Since being shared online, the video has been flooded with comments, with many praising the Meghalaya Police.
“No dearth of talent in our state. Thank you Meghalaya Police, you do us proud,” read one of the many comments on the viral clip. From chief ministers to professionals in other fields, all have taken to internet for songs in the hill state which is famous for its iconic Shillong Chamber Choir.
It may be mentioned that only recently on Instagram, Conrad Sangma shared a video of him shredding his guitar with a number by the metal band Iron Maiden and the internet just can’t get enough of it.
