TURA: Recent opposition to the handing over of the PHC to the Christian Medical College-Vellore doctors belonging to the SDA church mission is alleged to be because of a demand for government jobs by some of the locals from the area.
With the state under a huge financial crunch due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the rising demand for better medical facilities in the region, the state government has been under constraints when it came to funds and the operation of new medical centres.
Government sources reveal that a few disgruntled persons had demanded appointment with government pay scale for themselves which was turned down due to paucity of funds leading to the opposition.
“We cannot understand why there is opposition and by whom? All stakeholders including the Nokmas and landowners, who gave their property to the government for the PHC, came and met us on Friday requesting us to take over the PHC and start medical services,” revealed Medical Director of SDA Mission, Dr Denyl Joshua, who himself is a child specialist.
With regard to the apprehensions raised by some who oppose the move, Dr Joshua allayed the fears assuring that the services rendered by the PHC would be equivalent to those of the prominent hospitals from the region.
“Currently we have seven doctors including specialists like gynaecologists and paediatricians. We plan to open more branches and bring more specialist doctors once the hospital starts to run,” said Dr Joshua adding that treatment would be very cheap for everyone.
