SHILLONG: Breaking its silence on reports of political rumblings within the MDA, the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), which is a constituent of the ruling alliance, said the party was content and there was no internal feud.
Reacting to the reports, Urban Affairs Minister and PDF leader, Hamlet Dohling said that these were just rumours and all the partners in the MDA Government were happy and satisfied.
“We are optimistic that this government will last for five years and even beyond,” Dohling said.
Sources had earlier said that NPP – the major player leading the coalition — had made an offer to Congress MLAs to join hands and form an alternative government as it was tired of having to deal with petty issues of its other coalition partners like the BJP, HSPDP, PDF and UPF.
While the NPP and the UDP have rubbished the reports as mere speculation, other coalition partners were mute on the issue.
To a query as to why the sources would confirm such development if it was just a rumour, Dohling said,” Players in politics will never like to sit idle and they always want to play or apply their different techniques. They are politicians after all”.
A few of the MDA partners are said to have issues in dealing with changes of cabinet berths of their ministers after the completion of two-and-a-half years.
While the BJP is awaiting directions from their central leadership, others are left to decide on their own.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had also earlier maintained that the decision lies with the respective parties and the coalition has no say in it.
