Pipeline damage hits water supply

SHILLONG: The executive engineer (PHE) Greater Shillong Water Supply Division No-I, Shillong has informed that water supply from the Umkhen Water Supply Scheme has been disrupted due to damage in the upstream of Umkhen source caused by the recent torrential rain.
In a notice issued here, the engineer said that most of the pipelines have been washed away/displaced and repair work will take time due to the unfavourable weather conditions.
Areas affected are Nongrim Hills, Nongshiliang, WahThio (Nongkhyriem) and parts of Laitumkhrah.
The engineer said that every effort was being made to complete the repairs for restoration of
normal water supply at the earliest.
