MAWKYRWAT: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, Titos Chyne, on Friday said that villages in rural areas are more serious in the fight against COVID-19.
Chyne was speaking at a meeting with the Rangbah Shnong of different villages under Mawkyrwat constituency at the Mawkyrwat Community Hall.
He also hailed the village authorities of South West Khasi Hills District for collaborating with the government in the fight against COVID-19.
The KHADC CEM also said that the people of the district have intelligently fought against the pandemic by making it mandatory for returnees to undergo institutional quarantine at community quarantine centres prepared by the Dorbar Shnong.
“This is possible because of the hard work done by the Dorbar Shnong of different villages,” Chyne said.
The KHADC CEM also provided financial assistance to the Community COVID-19 Management Committee after the meeting.
Speaking about the KHADC market at Mawkyrwat, Chyne said that the KHADC had earlier sanctioned funds for building the market at Mawkyrwat. However, due to some reasons, the project could not be initiated.
He assured that the KHADC will once again reconsider building the market at Mawkyrwat, adding that they are still searching for the sites to build the market.
Others who were present include the MDC of Mawlai Teibor Pathaw, MDC of Mawkyrwat Constituency Carness Sohshang, Syiem of Hima Maharam Pa’iem Niandro Syiemiong, Myntri of Mawkyrwat village RR Lyngkhoi, among others.
