SHILLONG: The pressure groups of West Jaintia Hills district comprising HYC, FKJGP, KSU, JSU and Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong, War Jaintia, staged a protest on Thursday at Tamabil border against reopening of border trade with Bangladesh.
According to the publicity secretary of HYC, Ricky Mukhim, the protesters are not against export but they are worried about COVID-19 since Bangladesh is affected by the virus.
They wanted the state government to keep in abeyance the decision to start export as a step towards containing the spread of COVID-19 in the border district.
The magistrate, while asking the pressure groups to stop agitation, said that their demand will be communicated to the state government.
