Dorbar against use of poisonous substance in Umiam

NONGPOH: In a bid to preserve aquatic life in Umiam lake and others located in different villages under Umiam area, the Dorbar Shnong on Sunday called for cooperation of all the residents and fishermen from East Khasi Hills to refrain from applying false method in catching fish.
The Dorbar Shnong has warned the people from using any poisonous substance that may kill the aquatic species living in the river as the decision was taken after the Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited (MePGCL) opened the dam few days back. Twinkle Buhphang, Rangbah Shnong, Umiam, said that the village Dorbar of Umiam wanted the general public including the residents of the village and adjoining areas, especially fishermen of different areas to refrain from killing aquatic species. He also said that the decision was taken as part of preserving and conserving aquatic lives and water bodies so that the future generation will not be affected. (Contd from P-3)
