DC stops payment to VECs under inquiry

TURA: In the wake of allegations of various anomalies in the functioning of Village Employment Councils (VECs) under different blocks in West Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has issued an order directing concerned BDOs to put on hold payments to such councils until further orders.
Earlier, on several occasions, complaints were raised by job card holders alleging misappropriation of funds in the names of duplicate job card holders besides other anomalies in the different VECs.
Some of the VECs which are currently under investigation include those at Shialkandi, Moulakandi, Asikandi, Solaertek, Namaburijhar under Demdema and Magurmari and New Bhaitbari under Selsella Block.
Meanwhile, the DC, in a separate order, has directed to put on hold the issuance of fresh work orders and payment of material component to Shilakandi VEC, Namaburirjhar VEC, Soleartek Part-II VEC, Maulakandi Part-IV VEC, Askikandi VEC, Magurmari-I VEC and New Bhaitbari VEC.
