SHILLONG: Seeking the state government’s intervention, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has exhorted the former to providing a quarantine centre for the low-risk staff of NEIGRIHMS.
A delegation of the KSU met Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek, on Tuesday, in the wake of the hospital being exposed to COVID-19 on July 9.
KSU General Secretary, Donald Thabah, after the meeting, said that they have discussed the plight of the staff of NEIGRIHMS as cases are surging in the hospital.
Informing that the KSU has already held discussion with the Deputy Director of NEIGRIHMS on the issue, Thabah said the hospital is providing quarantine facilities only to the high-risk contacts and not the moderate and low-risk.
It may be mentioned that NEIGRIHMS Director, P Bhatacharya, had earlier informed that the low-risk contacts will continue to work.
The Union also lauded the state government and the Dorbar Shnong for their coordinated efforts in dealing with the returnees.
Suggesting that the government should coordinate and engage Dorbars to provide such quarantine facilities for the moderate and low-risk contacts, the KSU urged the government to help the Dorbars financially to set things in the right direction.
The minister informed us that the government is coming up with a plan on how to deal with the issue, Thabah said.
