Body found afloat Umiam
SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, on Monday, informed that the body of an unknown female was seen floating at Umiam river. The body, which was found in a highly-decomposed state at Mawdun village, East Khasi Hills, was shifted to Civil Hospital, Shillong, for conducting post-mortem examination. It was then kept at the Civil Hospital Morgue Room for identification.

MLA inspects model college
NONGPOH: Jirang MLA, Sosthenes Sohtun, on Wednesday inspected the construction progress of Model Degree College, Patharkhmah, hoping that with this pace, the college can be inaugurated next year. Being the first government college in Ri Bhoi with co-educational facilities, the college is being constructed under the centrally-sponsored scheme, Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), at an estimated amount of more than Rs 11 crore, the foundation stone of which was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through digital mode on February 3, 2019. Sohtun also lauded the contractor for 80 per cent completion of the construction work within few months. Beside the college, two hostels for boys and girls are also being constructed.

Webinar on waterways connectivity
SHILLONG: A state-based think tank, Asian Confluence, kick-started a webinar series, Asian Confluence NADI conversations, on Wednesday that deliberated on the cooperation in Indo-Bangladesh Inland waterways connectivity. The connectivity was hailed as an enabler for local, inclusive, climate smart growth in the post-COVID-19 times. “Inland waterways development can not only become a vital and cost-effective component of multimodal connectivity, but also a means to care for our shared riverine ecology and ensure sustainable development and livelihood generation for people on both sides of our borders. Healthy waterways, as part of a larger multimodal connectivity set-up, can be ensured with healthy practices of water resource management, which is also a prerequisite for growth of the farm sector,” this was the common theme that echoed the inaugural webinar.
