Shillong: Chairman of the State Planning Board, Lambor Malngiang on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the construction and improvement of 1.258 km internal road at Kynton-U-Mon, Nongkrem in the presence of BP Marak, Chief Engineer (NH), PWD (Roads).
Rs 2.76-crore has been sanctioned for the project which will include construction, metalling and black topping of the internal road, including four link roads.
Speaking on the occasion, Malngiang said that construction of the road at Kynton U Mon has come after 48 long years of wait. Seeking the cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly the people of the village for the smooth execution of the project, he expressed hope that once completed, the road will prove to be a boon for the people of the area.
Malngiang also informed that in the past two and a half years, projects worth over Rs 50 crore have been implemented in Nongkrem through the Public Works Department.
The programme was also attended by the officers of the PWD department, the Rangbah Shnong and members of the Dorbar Shnong, Seng Khynthei and Seng Samla.
