Govt balm to kin of GH flood victims

TURA: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the families of the four children and a woman who, last week, lost their lives in the floods in the plains of West Garo Hills.
The chief minister announced the release of Rs 20 lakh where a monetary aid of Rs 4 lakh will be provided to each family.
While announcing the ex-gratia, Conrad also expressed his condolences to the families.
“Saddened to see five lives lost because of the floods. We are doing everything to ensure the safety of our citizens during this time. Our condolences to the bereaved families,” stated the chief minister.
The four children, viz. Anush Rabha (6), Himraj Rabha (5), Shruti Rabha (5) and Urushmita Rabha (5), had drowned while playing in floodwaters in their village in Tikrikilla on July 15.
A day later, an 18-year-old girl, Anisha Bibi, also drowned while attempting to navigate through floodwaters at Nolbari village under Phulbari jurisdiction.
