SHILLONG: In its fast-paced march to set up the Directorate of Ayush in the state, the government has decided to set up a temporary office of the Directorate at the Pasteur Institute here.
In its process to set up the office, the state government said that it will ask the National Institute of Fashion Technology and NEIGRIHMS authorities, who are presently occupying the buildings at the Pasteur Institute, to vacate the property.
“We will have to write to them as we need the building now for the purpose of establishing the Directorate,” Health Minister AL Hek said.
The Health department, on Tuesday, held a detailed discussion on setting up the Ayush Directorate as well as the manpower required to run it.
The government has proposed the name of the Secretary of Health department to look after the Directorate of Ayush as its secretary for coordinating on various matters with the Union Ministry of Ayush. At present, the state government has a nodal officer for the Ayush Directorate.
While maintaining that the Ayush system has great potential which can benefit the state, Hek said that it (Ayush Directorate) would require a lot of manpower.
The Health department is also on the move to approach Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is in-charge of Finance department, to sanction posts for the Directorate. The posts required in the proposed Directorate include Additional and Joint secretaries, Medical Superintendent, Drug Inspector etc.
Ayush is the acronym of the medical systems practised in India such as Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
