SHILLONG: CBI Shillong has confirmed that the investigating agency has moved the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for its clearance to investigation into the NEIGRIHMS implant scam.
The confirmation came from the CBI office here as former NEIGRIHMS director Dr DM Thappa had claimed that investigating agency, which was probing the implant scam and assets created by HOD Cardiology, Dr Animesh Mishra, has sought the approval of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“Yes we have sought the approval of the Health Ministry and we are waiting for the approval,” sources from the CBI Shillong told this scribe said on Monday.
When asked what would happen if the Ministry refuses to give its approval, the source said that there will be no investigation by the central agency.
Earlier, Dr Thappa had said the probe was based on the reports emanating from NEIGRIHMS and Meghalaya High Court case for disruption of cath lab surgeries in May first week last year following the seizure of Rs 32 lakh stents, pacemakers and other surgical implants from Sanjo Pharmacy and the subsequent CBI scrutiny in cardiology, orthopaedics and radiology as part of all India anti-corruption drive.
The ex-director alleged that Mishra had asked Sanjo pharmacy to visit the cath lab in cardiology department on a daily basis to supply stents, pacemakers and implants at higher prices to run a private syndicate to derive benefits and create assets out of proportion of his income.
Both Dr Mishra and the pharmacy owner had denied the charge.
